A Christmas 2015 Book Haul

Hey guys! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and for those of you that don't celebrate, then I hope you had a wonderful day with your family and friends! I thought I'd just share the books that I received for Christmas and see what you guys got as well. I'd just like to say that I am extremely grateful for everything I received and that I love my family very much. If any of you have read any of these books then please let me know and tell me what you guy's thought of them!

"Even if Blue hadn't been told her true love would die if she kissed him, she would stay away from boys. Especially the ones from the local private school. Known as Raven Boys, they only mean trouble.
But this is the year everything will change for Blue.
This is the year that she will be drawn into the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys. And the year Blue will discover that magic does exist.
This is the year she will fall in love."

I was so happy to get The Raven Boys for Christmas. I had been debating getting it for an extremely long time and I'm really grateful the decision was made for me! I really enjoyed Maggie's Shiver series and I just finished Lament, so I'm really happy to be reading another of her novels. I really like the cover and overall I feel like it will be a great read!

"It's the accident season, the same time every year. Bones break, skin tears, bruises bloom.
The accident season has been a part of seventeen year old Cara's life for as long as she can remember: a month of mysterious injuries and tragedies, which casts a constant shadow over Cara and her family.
This year, the accident season will break more than just bones. Because Cara is starting to ask questions - and all her family's secrets will rise to the surface."

I wasn't really sure about this novel; I haven't heard a lot about it and although it looks to be quite interesting, I'm not too sure if this is right up my street. However, I'm all for giving new things a go, so I think I'll be reading this one first just see where it takes me.

"Feyre is a huntress.
She thinks nothing of slaughtering a wolf to capture its prey. But, like all mortals, she fears what lingers mercilessly beyond the forest. And she will learn that taking the life of a magical creature comes at a high price...
Imprisoned in an enchanted court in her enemy's kingdom, Feyre is free to roam but forbidden to escape. Her captor's body bears the scars of fighting, and his face is always masked - but his piercing stare draws her ever closer. As Feyre's feelings for Tamlin begin to burn through every warning she's been told about his kind, an ancient, wicked shadow grows.
Feyre must find a way to break a spell, or lose her heart forever."

A Court of Thorns and Roses looks incredible. I love, love, love Sarah J. Maas' writing style and although I haven't read the complete Throne of Glass series, I cannot wait to begin this one. I'm excited and happy and this looks like a really great read. I like the cover design although the feel of the cover makes me feel a bit funny but other than that, it looks amazing!

"This is a world divided by blood - Red or Silver.
The Reds are commoners, ruled by a Silver elite in possession of God-like superpowers. And to seventeen year old Mare, a Red girl from the poverty-stricken Stilts, it seems like nothing will ever change.
But Mare possesses a deadly power of her own.
One that threatens to destroy the balance of power.
Fearful of her potential, the Silvers hide Mare in plain view, declaring her a long-lost Silver princess. Knowing that one false move will mean her death, Mare must now use her new position to bring down the regime - from the inside.
Now Mare has entered a game of betrayal and lies.
This is Reds against Silvers, prince against prince and Mare against her own heart."

Can we all just take a minute to admire how beautiful this cover is? I mean it's stunning! Absolutely stunning! I love dystopian novels and Red Queen looks like the perfect addition to my growing collection. Really excited to read it - especially as it is part of a series.

"Two Outsiders. Two secrets.
David longs to be a girl.
Leo wants to be invisible.
When Leo stands up for David in a fight, an unlikely friendship forms. But things are about to get messy. Because at Eden Park School secrets have a funny habit of not staying secret for long..."

I have heard so much about this book and how amazing and wonderful it is and so I was super, super happy to get it for Christmas. It looks a fantastic read with a really great message which relates so much to the issues of today's society. Also, I was lucky enough to discover that it has actually been signed by Lisa Williamson herself! How cool is that? I can't wait to read it and am just really excited to hear this story.

"A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of peculiar photographs. It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
As Jacob explores its decaying bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that Miss Peregrine's children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous.
They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason.
And somehow - impossible though it seems - they may still be alive."

This book has been on my to-buy list for so long now and I feel like a part of me is now complete now that I have it. It has this vintage, beautiful vibe to it and I definitely feel like this is going to be a really good one to read.

"September 3, 1940. Ten peculiar children flee an army of deadly monsters. And only one person can help them - but she's trapped in the body of a bird. The extraordinary journey that began in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children continues as Jacob Portman and his new found friends journey to London, the peculiar capital of the world. There they hope to find a cure for their beloved head mistress, Miss Peregrine. But in this war-torn city, hideous surprises lurk around every corner. And before Jacob can deliver the peculiar children to safety, he must make an important decision about his love for Emma Bloom.
Like its predecessor, this second novel in the Peculiar Children series blends thrilling fantasy with vintage photography to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience."

So not only did I get the first novel in this series, I also was lucky enough to be given the second. Again, can't wait to read and find out about the world of the Peculiar Children.

"Sixteen year old Audrey just wants to be normal.
She's trying to fit in.
But what happens when the person closest to you suffocates you with their love?
What happens then?"

Lies like Love looks like such as great read and I can't wait to find out what it's all about. I like the cover, I like the blurb on the back and all in all I can't wait to give it a go! This was also another book that was signed by the author, which is pretty lucky and amazing.

"Simon Snow is the worst chosen one who's ever been chosen.
That's what his roommate, Baz, says. And Baz might be evil and a vampire and a complete git, but he's probably right.
Half the time Simon can't even make his wand work, and the other half, he sets something on fire.
His mentor's avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there's a magic eating monster running around wearing Simon's face.
Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here - it's their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon's infuriating nemesis didn't even bother to show up.

I am soooooo excited! Everyone knows how much I love Rainbow Rowell's books and I have wanted this since it was released. I am so happy and thankful and grateful and I cannot wait to start reading to find out what happens.

And now for the icing on the cake!

My wonderful boyfriend, Peter gave me Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (illustrated by Jim Kay) for Christmas and words cannot begin to describe how much I love and adore this version of the book.
Harry Potter started everything for me; reading, writing and wanting to create my own worlds and I love everything about this copy  - the illustrations are amazing and I love it so, so, so much!

Once again I am extremely grateful for everything I was given for Christmas. Let me know what you guys got for Christmas and let me know if you guys have read any of these at all because I'd love to know!

The TMI Tag - Book Blogger Edition

Hey guys, I saw this on Charlie's blog so I thought I would do it as a way for us to get to know each other better. Tell me in the comments below what your answers would be and let's see how we compare.

Here is a link for Charlie's tag and blog: https://fandomsontherun.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/tmi-tag-book-blogger-edition/

1. Which fictional character has the best style?

I think in our hearts we all know that the true winner of the best style award would be Dolores Umbridge. I mean check out those cardigans.

I'm kidding! I'm kidding!

Best style award in my opinion goes to Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games.

I just really love the way she is bold and confident with her clothing choices. I think she kicks butt in the fashion and beauty world of Panem. My favourite dress of hers is the stunning and captivating butterfly dress.

2. Your book boyfriend/girlfriend/fictional crush?

Park, from Rainbow Rowell's Eleanor and Park or Victor, Uriel or Yves Benedict from Joss Stirling's Benedict brothers series.

3. Ever loved a character, but then started hating them?

Oh there have been way to many of those haha.

What kind of question is that? There are literally so many. Um, okay, almost all the ships from the Harry Potter series, Haymitch and Effie from the Hunger Games, Karla and Saul from the Benedict brothers series, Phoenix and Yves from the Benedict brothers series, Will and Lyra from His Dark Material - yeah I'm going to stop before this turns into a blog post of it's own.

The Night Circus Review

Title: The Night Circus

Author: Erin Morgenstern

Published: 13th September 2011

Publisher: Doubleday

Pages: 387

Languages: English

Genre: Fantasy

Ratings: Waterstones - 5/5
               Goodreads - 4/5

Synopsis:

The circus arrives without warning.
No announcements precede it...
It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.

I had searched high and low for months and months before I found this book (thank God for charity shops) in pristine quality. It hadn't even been opened. Now I've got it and read it three or four times there are creases down the spine and corners folded down, so you know it's become one of the family.

It goes without saying that this book is breathtaking, enchanting, mesmerising - all the long fancy words that I rarely use. It is everything I love in a book; characters to die for, descriptions worth crying over, a plot that had me reading until four in the morning to get to the end  - it's been so long since a book did that to me, honestly.

Morgenstern writes The Night Circus in a way that makes the reader so enthralled in her world it is very difficult to escape it afterwards. I had a book hangover for days before I could function properly. Her writing, I believe is on par with that of J K Rowling, George R R Martin and Philip Pullmen. It is definitely a novel I would recommend to all of you, especially if you love fantasy.

Another thing I really loved about The Night Circus was that neither Marco nor Celia had a clue what they were doing and who or what they were up against. It really added to the thrill when you realised that they were falling in love and it broke my heart when I thought they were both going to die - definitely some elements of Shakespeare in there. I loved the wide range of characters, I loved the way both Celia and Marco were portrayed.

Again, in young adult novels we're seeing elements of fandoms; in The Night Circus fans of the circus call themselves reveurs (dreamers) and they wear a splash of red to identify themselves. It is definitely becoming more of a current idea and is used by Morgenstern, (like Rowell) in a positive way which is great for the fandom community.

So, yes, read The Night Circus, I promise you will fall in love as I have. I was so upset when I heard there wasn't going to be sequel, but I'll always have the book to keep me going. It is everything the reviews say and Morgenstern deserves every ounce of praise she gets for this modern masterpiece. I award The Night Circus five out of five bookworthy points and a very secure place on the bookshelf.
